News: Alleged drunk driver charged with killing 8-year-old on scooter in Dallas

DALLAS, TX - The Dallas Police Department announced an arrest in an accident that killed a child on Monday evening.

Police responded to the scene at 3600 Dilido Road at about 7:10 p.m. and found that an 8-year-old boy had been struck by a vehicle while riding a scooter. The boy was pronounced dead after being taken to an area hospital.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as 30-year-old Miguel Martinez, remained at the scene.

Police said their investigation determined that Martinez was intoxicated at the time of the crash and had been driving with a child in his vehicle. Martinez was arrested and charged with murder and DWI of 2 or more previous convictions. Bond was set at $600,000.

Dallas police are continuing to investigate the case.
