News: 2 dead, including Carrollton police officer, in crash on President George Bush Turnpike
The officer was struck Tuesday night after responding to a DWI investigation near Josey Lane.
CARROLLTON, TX - The Carrollton police department is mourning the death of one of its police officers who was killed in a crash on Tuesday night, KDFW reports.
Police said the Carrollton officer was backing up a drunk driving investigation on the President George Bush Turnpike when the accident occurred at about 10:30 p.m. The officer's squad car was struck by a passing driver near Josey Lane. The officer was pronounced dead after being taken to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital. The driver of the car that hit him, an 82-year-old man from Carrollton, died at the scene.
Investigators are trying to determine the cause of the crash, and said there were no initial indications that alcohol was a contributing factor.
The police officer was a husband and father of four who had been with the Carrollton police force since 2020 and was the department's first officer to die in the line of duty.
